What is the best way to store bread?
The best way to store bread is to place it in a bread box or in a paper bag or two, and keep it on the counter cut side down. Do not put bread in the fridge, it will dry out and become stale faster. Store slices, separated by parchment paper, in a freezer bag in the freezer to keep longer than a few days.
What to do with bread that is about to become stale?
Make croutons! Cut leftover bread into 1-inch cubes. In a skillet on medium high heat, melt 1-2 tablespoons of butter, add the bread cubes with a generous sprinkle of salt. Saute the bread cubes until golden brown. Add to salads, soups, or eat as a snack. The croutons will keep for a few days in an airtight container.
